"Shades
Of Indonesia" by Pete Matthews and from the makers of
great surfing dvds like "Shades of Bali". Dream
waves and smiling faces. Militant Muslims and peaceful Buddhists.
Speeding scooters and throbbing discos. Mysticism and modernism
coexist in an ancient land, creating a kaleidoscope of influences.
Indonesia has become a mecca for traveling surfers lured by
perfect points, hollow reef breaks and high-performance beach
breaks. In turn, native Indonesians have laid claim to surfing
and a new generation of world-class surfers are busting down
the doors and acting as international ambassadors. Embedded
cinematographer Pete Matthews documents the new faces of Indonesian
surfing while capturing the heart and soul of this many-faceted
culture.

the long anticipated new surfing DVD from Lost. In
the winter of '96 / '97, while everyone was riding 6'1"
thrusters featuring Slater's elf shoe rocker and long before
the "retro fish" craze, two kids attacked the
North Shore and beyond on 5'5" twin fins. The subsequent
action ended up being tossed together for the 1997 video
55 x 19 1/4" and other oddities. What started
as an addendum of random recent fish clips has
turned into a magnus opus of epic proportion. Over 10...
or 8... or 12 years in the making comes... 55
X 19 1/4 REDUX.
Starring
Chris Ward, Aaron Cormican, and Mason Ho putting sub 5
6 boards to their limits. Also featuring sections
from Shane Beschen, Kolohe Andino, Dane Reynolds, Jordy
Smith, Ryan Carlson, and Ol Mr. SL9er himself. ...And
for the first time ever seen, Cory Lopez and Ian Walsh weaving
through some of the longest tubes ever captured on video
at what SURFER Magazine dubbed The Holy
Grail of Surf Scores.
55
x 19 ¼ The Original surfing now for the first
ime on DVD. Chris Ward, Cory Lopez, Andy Irons, Kasey Curtis
and friends are doing some of the freest surfing imaginable
these days on little 5' 5" x 19 1/4" fish. These
guys will surf anywhere--Rockpile on the Rocks, Waimea shorebreak,
San Clemente Pier--and they'll go for anything--air 360s,
sliding 360s, side-slips in the tube. Sometimes they make
it, sometimes they don't, but they're always going for it
and they're always entertaining to watch--fast, loose and
creative. Just when you're getting tired of all the sliding
and spinning, 5' 5" changes tack and shows the indestructible
Kelly Slater in a duel to the death at grinding Burleigh Head.
Slater takes off on a half-dozen sand-dredging Burleigh bombs
and gets ground to bits as the barrels speed past him or close
out. Slater breaks his board, runs up to his hotel for a spare
and pulls into one of the longest tube-rides ever captured
on film or video--a Mach 3 trip through a tube that lasts
almost eight seconds. Forget about Kelly Slater in Kolor,
that one short segment tells you all you'll ever need to know
about the determined little bugger. From Burleigh, 5' 5"
goes down the Australian coast to listen in on a strange meeting
of the minds between Tom Curren and George Greenough as they
trace out and shape a 6' 4" roundtail based on an old
Michael Peterson outline. Curren loosens the board up at a
local beachbreak, then gives himself a mohawk and power squats
it through some grinding Kirra barrels. The video ends with
Curren surfing a clean, green 4-foot day at Rincon. No tail-slides,
no 360s, nothing fancy, just Tom Curren surfing smooth, fast
and beautiful on a tiny swallow-tail fish. Like magic, those
few waves of Curren's make all of the other surfing in this
video (excepting Slater's barrel) fade away.

Tom Curren and Kelly Slater
These
two names say it all. Check the Bio's of the two foremost
pioneers of modern surfing. Tom
Curren and Kelly Slater are surfing's most important figures
in the last 20 years. Both surfers dominated their eras
competitively: Tom in the '80s; Kelly in the 90s.
Both exhibited innate natural ability and wave knowledge;
and between the two of them, they amassed an unprecedented
nine world titles. In so doing, Curren, then Slater, lifted
American professional surfing to peak from the self-doubting
doldrums imposed by the brassy Australian and South African
dominance in the 1970s.
